For every unit of electricity that our customers who have chosen our 100% Renewable Electricity Tariff use, we match this by purchasing a renewably sourced unit, directly from the biggest offshore wind energy company in the world, Ørsted. We do this by taking part in the Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) scheme – more on this below.
By switching to 100% Renewable Electricity, based on average consumption, a typical kinex customer will save 2.08 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere…2
Our Energy regulator Ofgem issues one REGO certificate per megawatt hour (MWh) of eligible renewable output to generators of renewable electricity. This shows that a given share of energy was produced from renewable sources. We then purchase these certificates from Ørsted to match the amount of electricity our customers use and the amount of electricity from renewable sources that is on the grid.
Like all energy suppliers, we are only allowed to publish the relevant figures for the year up to the end of March once we reach October that same year.
