When it comes to charity work, kinex is always on the lookout to engage with local communities to support their projects. The kinex Community Support Scheme is a great opportunity for organisations to contact us to help them improve the lives of others within their local area and promote community spirit.
It is with this community spirit and vision of thinking about others that kinex is happy to announce Rotary in Worsley as June’s recipients of our Community Support Scheme.
Established in 1978, Rotary in Worsley has helped their local community by being involved in many causes. Their message is of “service above self” as they look to work continuously to improve the lives of others within their community. They work to support local groups in the area to develop sustainable change with focus on causes that particularly help vulnerable and disadvantaged people.
On 8th June, Rotary in Worsley hosted a Fun Day and Celebrity Football match to raise money to their causes – specially towards Monton Youth club. The initiative started a year ago, when Monton Youth club was struggling with lack of funds and support. This was when the first Fun Day and Celebrity Football match came to place. With the aim of raising money for a cause that is at the heart of the community, the Rotarians from Worsley Satellite Group put together the event to help out projects in their community. It’s all about helping one another where possible!
In its second year, kinex is very proud to be sponsoring the Fun Day and Celebrity Football match with our Community Support Scheme grant of £500.
Over 30 local businesses took part of the Artisan Food and Trading Festival held at the event and the fundraiser was attended by many. Altogether around £8000.00 was raised. Other than kinex and Jet2 as the event’s sponsors, families, friends, and people from around the community also contributed to make the event come to life.
Despite the rain, wet grass, and nippy temperature, volunteers were brought together to make the most out of the day. There was an early start for many, but even the poor weather could not dampen their spirits. As helpful volunteers set up equipment and welcoming signs directed those who braved the weather to support the cause, the kick off to the Fun Day was extremely successful.
When it came to the Celebrity Football Match, the celebrities who played such as Coronation Street actor Alan Halsall, Ex United player Denis Irwin and a host of Emmerdale and Hollyoaks actors were very happy to be endorsing such worthy cause. Although a very tight game, The All-stars team won 7-6. But we know that everyone is a winner when playing for the same team.
On kinex’ sponsorship of the event, President of Worsley Rotary, Tony Clayson explains:
‘During one of our planning meetings, a member of our organising committee mentioned that kinex offered a community grant. We looked at the work that kinex has done with other organisations, and together with Rotary’s longstanding traditions of involvement with the local business community, we thought that kinex would a be a perfect potential to help us in this event. We’re grateful for their kindness and for receiving the maximum donation kinex Community Support Scheme can provide! Thank you kinex – you’re doing a wonderful job.’
The kinex Community Support Scheme allocates grants from £100-£500 each and every month to support worthwhile causes like this.
