Community Support Scheme funds TDAS stress management session

The kinex Community Support Scheme made its first donation to Trafford Domestic Abuse Services (TDAS). The group used our contribution to fund a stress management and relaxation session for people who have been affected by domestic abuse.

Inaugural donation

kinex are committed to supporting charities and community groups which help local communities across the UK. As part of these efforts we’ve set up the kinex Community Support Scheme, which allows us to give up to £500 to groups who do important work in local areas.

The Scheme’s first donation was awarded to TDAS, a Manchester-based charity which gives support to individuals and families who have been affected by domestic abuse. Commenting on the donation, Debbie Gardner at TDAS said: “We would like to put the money towards a pilot for stress management and relaxation workshops for our clients. A high percentage of the clients we support have increased levels of stress following the abuse they have endured.”

Stress Management Session

We can now reveal that TDAS has held its pilot stress management and relaxation session. The event was attended by seven people and was split into two parts. The first covered the causes and effect of stress, both mentally and physically. The second gave attendees the chance to take part in a mindful breathing session and try guided meditation, in order to teach them stress coping techniques.

TDAS asked the group to fill out a reflection sheet after the session. Everyone said they felt more relaxed after the event, with an overall average stress reduction rate of 35%. Meanwhile, some of the group admitted they felt 50% more relaxed following the session; these are encouraging results for a new venture, as attending the first session for any new group can be daunting.

Positive start

TDAS shared some feedback from the session with participants commenting “it was worthwhile” and admitting that “the guided meditation really helped me to focus.” When asked what they had learned from the event, attendees cited “how to deal with different stress,” “what stress is” and “how to use breathing techniques to help with relaxing,” among other things.

Commenting on the pilot session, Gardner said: “The group asked to be notified of future relaxation sessions, which is a great indication they enjoyed it and found it useful. We feel it was a very positive start to this additional and innovative service offered by TDAS.

“Your financial contribution to our charity made offering this session possible and for that we are extremely grateful to you and all at kinex. On behalf of all those that attended and all at TDAS thank you very much for choosing to support us and I hope you will consider doing so again in the future.”
